Nowra Bomaderry Wheels to Meals monthly lunches providing welcome social interaction for their customers | South Coast Registry

news, latest news,

Social interaction is a luxury that many of us take for granted and for older generations, who find themselves alone, a day of socializing can make their whole month. Kohli Indian Restaurant in Nowra last week hosted the monthly Nowra Bomaderry Meals on Wheels (MOW) – Wheels to Meals outlet. It was one of many generous local restaurants to voluntarily provide a discounted lunch to customers of Nowra Bomaderry MOW. Read more: These outings don’t just offer a delicious meal for the group. They allow essential social interaction for members that many of them sometimes struggle to obtain throughout their daily lives. “Social interaction is absolutely necessary for them,” said Yadida Sekel, coordinator of Nowra Bomaderry Wheels to Meals. “Most of the diners are single retirees who rarely leave their homes, are alone, and extremely grateful for an inexpensive social gathering of like-minded individuals.” COVID-19 restrictions over the past year have made customers feel even more isolated at times, Sekel said. “They’re all like, we can see somebody, we can talk to somebody. They’re all very relieved about it,” she said. “They just chat and chat and chat and it’s really sweet.” For more than five years, Community Transportation has transported up to 20 MOW patrons to the designated restaurant of the month and brought them home at the end of a lively lunch. The initiative helps fill a void for many of their customers and MOW is delighted to continue to provide many years of Shoalhaven lunches with satisfied customers. The group is always looking for new volunteers to help out. “Our success depends on volunteers, whether they deliver meals, work in the kitchen or are part of the administrative team,” Ms Sekel said. “Any local restaurants that would also like to help out as future venues for these lunches are also welcome.” More information can be found on their website
