Kirk Cameron slammed for backing homeschooling, internet says ‘kids need social interaction’

“Growing Pains” star Kirk Cameron has made a documentary called “Homeschool Awakening,” in which he criticizes the American school, calling it inaccurate and immoral. Cameron has a strong opinion about how children are brought up in school and he thinks children should be educated better at home. In the teaser, a mum explains, “The freedom we had was so worth the little sacrifice it was worth teaching the kids. Now, 12 years later, I realize it wasn’t a sacrifice – it was worth it. was a total gift.” “No one will love our children more than us,” added a father while a homeschooled teenager remarked, “And the greatest gift I received was my own identity. My parents gave it to me.”

According to Cameron, one of the film’s primary goals is to dispel the myth that homeschooling is terrible and that those who do it are rare and underdeveloped compared to those who attend a traditional school. The documentary’s synopsis reads: “Families across the country are experiencing the awakening of homeschooling, enjoying freedom and opportunities for self-discovery – with the world as their classroom. Join the award-winning actor, Kirk Cameron, as he delves into the adventures of vibrant American families in an effort to restore fun and faith in learning. The Homeschool Awakening explores the ins, outs and honest answers to questions frequently asked questions about home schooling.

Social media was quick to react when one person wrote on Twitter, “Homeschooling has turned my kids into amazing young adults. They surprise me. Anyway, the teachers send work home and we always ended up doing it. We use an online system and our children have learned not only about education, but also about time management and personal responsibility. “Yeah, homeschool them then.” This will keep them quarantined at home and that’s all we ask,” another person added. Yet another person remarked, “The best way to save our children.”

However, not everyone was happy with Kirk’s idea, as one person pointed out: “All Kirk Cameron does is make money from human fears and of the ordinary woman. We tried homeschooling during the 20-21 school year, all it did was put our eldest daughter further behind her peers. You are doing your children a disservice by sheltering them. Another said: ‘Kids need that social interaction just like you do here.’

Meanwhile, according to ABC News, 18 states submitted current school year statistics in early April; the number of children attending home school increased by 63% in 2020-2021, then decreased by only 17% in 2021-2022. This indicates that parents have decided not to send their children to school for reasons of safety and better education.

Cameron said the public school system does not work with people, but rather against them, and that the public school system is America’s number one enemy from his perspective. The actor advises to take control of education because whoever controls the textbooks has an influence on the future. The documentary will only be screened in theaters on June 13 and 14.
