Victoria Therapeutic Riding Association (VTRA) is a non-profit riding experience that provides horseback riding activities for children and adults with a wide range of abilities in Greater Victoria.
Horseback riding is known to provide healing socialization to members, said Mary Vincent, a stable management instructor, and it is the association’s mission to bring it to as many people as possible in the area.
“The therapeutic side of things really helps with a lot of confidence with children with special needs – we really noticed a difference right away,” said Steven Branyik, member of the association that takes his daughter Aiyana to classes. horseback riding once a week.
A range of programs are offered, such as therapeutic riding, adaptive driving and stable management.
Therapeutic Riding, also known as Adaptive Riding, emphasizes the development of equestrian skills and interaction with horses.
Adaptive Riding courses teach horse-drawn cart driving skills, and the Stable Management program is designed to teach participants about the care and safety of horses in a barn.
