Everyone has a social media account these days, right? I mean, it’s 2022! Everyone either has Facebook or Twitter or Tik Tok, right? Well, everyone except Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto. While many athletes have taken to social media to “grow their brand” and interact with fans, Votto has avoided the mess that can occur on these platforms.
So far, that is. the The Reds’ social media team broke the news on Tuesday that the former MVP now has an account on Instagram. Nearly 11,000 people have already followed the Reds star and I’m sure they’re eagerly waiting to see what Votto has to say.
Joey Votto has usually been the one to avoid the spotlight of being a superstar baseball player. Sure, Votto will be giving interviews, and more recently we’ve seen a lighter version of Votto, but the six-time All-Star has always been much more reserved about his opinions. Will that change with Votto joining the social media world?
Only time will tell, but I think Reds fans should stop before they expect Votto to use his social media platform as a way to disparage Cincinnati ownership or take hits. low against opposing players and fans. Just because Votto joined Instagram, I don’t think we should expect him to change too much.
However, fans can see another side of Votto. I’m sure Reds Country would love to peek behind the curtain and see what Joey Votto really looks like. Will we see some of the restaurants Votto frequents on the road? Maybe a certain style of clothing that the former MVP prefers to wear? Where does Votto go and what does he do on his days off?
Joey Votto has always been a bit of an enigma to the Cincinnati Reds faithful, but now it looks like the 38-year-old could be opening up a bit more. Baseball has been trying (unsuccessfully) for the past year to market some of their biggest stars, joining Votto in the world of social media can only help.
